ROOT-ed Zine's fourth digital issue for September 2018.

ROOT-ed Zine’s fourth issue is dedicated to HAIR! The co-founders of ROOT-ed Zine, Amber Akaunu and Fauziya Johnson, have both experienced negativity in regards to their natural textured/curly hair. Through discussions with friends, family and people on social media, they’ve found that these experiences occur very often for People of Colour, and is a topic strongly present in their lives. This issue consists of talented creatives of colour who have contributed with either their artwork or their writing to discuss and dissect topics such as the socio-political aspect of hair, raising young girls to love their hair and body hair.

This issue is in collaboartion with FACT.

ROOT-ed's co-founders, Amber Akaunu and Fauziya Johnson, are the recipients of the 2018 HOPE + FACT Graduate Production Residency Award, which offers Liverpool Hope University BAFine Art Graduates the opportunity to participate in a two month production residency at FACT. The two decided to use this special opportunity to grow and expand ROOT-ed!
